45. KATIE MULLALLY

Katie Mullally combines vintage pieces with modern design, linking it to her Irish heritage. The designer encourages her customers to incorporate their individuality when it comes to her pieces, for example, her two-coin necklaces are detachable, so the wearer can swap to their chain or ribbon to layer up with other pieces.

We are all aware of how millennials are disrupting the fashion industry, but what about the jewelry business? Are diamonds still a girl’s best friend? Yes, because millennials still romanticize about jewelry. That said, instead of diamonds, millennials are opting for colored gems like pink sapphires or the Sri Lankan-native Padparadscha sapphire and multi-colored tourmalines instead. Girls of today aren’t waiting for a knight in shining armor to gift it to them—they buy it for themselves, highlighting the #girlpower. The biggest considerations, however, motivating jewelry purchases amongst millennials are that it has to be modern, cool and unique . Here are top 5 contemporary brands for the millennials.

46. XIAO WANG

It makes the daintiest most opulent fine jewelry pieces for her namesake brand. The New York-based label features recycled gold (A+ for sustainability efforts) and untreated colorful gems like tourmalines and emeralds. Her  Galaxy Rare Diamond Ring  is crafted from kite-shaped rosasite, cushion-shaped fossil dinosaur bone, and triangle-shaped winchite, white round diamonds, natural color mix shape diamonds and gray diamonds, is not only a great statement piece but also a worthy investment. You can buy those amazing rings here.

47. WWAKE

WWAKE is the brainchild of New York-based designer Wing Yau, who’s challenging what heirloom jewelry should be with her jewelry label, WWAKE. With a background in sculpture, Yau’s jewelry prominently features contour shapes. Their  Nestled Moonstone and Diamond Ring  is definitely one of our favorites. Its features include a single iridescent moonstone, nestled in an arc-shaped band that’s flanked by two diamonds.

48. MARIA TASH

American fine jewelry and body piercer Maria Tash’s fondness for jewelry developed when she attended a jewelry designing workshop with her mom. She actualized her passion after college and since been creating jewelry for over two decades. Tash’s pieces focus on reimagining Indian and Pakistani aesthetics in unique contemporary jewelry. Her  Opal and Diamond Pave Ring  is on our wish list.

49. KATKIM

Since they appeared on our radar, Los Angeles-based Katherine Kim’s fine jewelry label, KATKIM has been a favorite. Kim calls the likes of Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kate Hudson and Taraji P. Henson her clients. And her jewelry features clean lines and unique silhouettes. We’re currently loving this  Charlie Pavé Ear Pin  from their  Ear Pin Collection , comprising 18k yellow gold and was inspired by a safety pin.

50. WENDY NICHOL

The New York-based designer of her eponymous jewelry label Wendy Nichol describes herself as a ‘witch’. Which is probably what intrigued us to check out her pieces and we have to admit, we love them. There’s something quite Morganian about it, especially these  Briolette Emerald Cut Ghost Amethyst  earrings. Click here to explore the contemporary styles of jewelry.
