Job Description
The “Sr. Network Administrator” is a member of the Operations team at the GIA. He or she will be responsible for executing support, enhancing the network security capability.
- Responsible for security of internal data communications systems.
- Works on project implementation.
- The “Sr. Network Administrator” will ensure operating environments are maintained to optimal performance meeting defined SLA’s.
- Key success for this position requires in-depth understanding of global security best practices, good understanding of technologies such as next generation firewalls, Networking Devices, Advance threat protection, Intrusion detection / Prevention systems and Security tools architecture.
- This role will implement best practices, operational discipline and integrate appropriate changes as business needs require.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Configure, test, install, implement, evaluate and administrate local and wide area networks.
- Install, configure and maintain network hardware, software and peripheral components including routers, switches, bridges, hubs, digital service unit/channel service unit, firewalls and other network equipment and software.
- Monitor network performance and performs system-wide or network-wide audits.
- Participate in the evaluation of network protocols, hardware and software to determine their applicability to network needs.
- Provide technical direction to IT support staff as needed, acting as Level 2 & 3 support and liaison with vendors for problem resolution.
- Managing and administering our endpoint and network security tools. Ensure that the tools are in best working condition as well up-to-date for lifecycle management.
- Configure, test and maintain various elements of the physical and virtual network infrastructure, including route, switch, firewall, VPN, SAN and core (VMWare NSX micro segmentation, distributed routing; Cisco Nexus/FEX, ASA; Palo Alto Firewall, misc. WAP devices)
- Execute incident response process and procedures to remediate threats.
- Review and remediate escalated incidents from our SOC team in a timely manner.
- Work closely with internal teams (Cyber Security, Network, Windows, Linux and Regional IT) to continuously improve our security posture in the environment.
- Tune and implement configuration changes to security controls as necessary.
- Stay up-to-date on information technology trends and security standards.
- Assist and work with the Engineering team in executing global security projects/initiatives.
- Provide 24/7 security operations support to the business.
- Assist with vulnerability management program to improve overall operational efficiency and effectiveness.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Strong experience with complex networks, perimeter security management and routing.
- Experience supporting Operational Support Systems (OSS) and/or Network Management Systems (NMS)
- Solid understanding of networking (routing/switching/security) foundation, with an in-depth understanding of network protocols and applications with exposure to LAN & WAN environments.
- Experience in implementing Wide Area Networks (MPLS & SD WAN)
- Strong computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Office Suite, e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and e-mail.
- Good understanding of cloud security (Azure, 0365, AWS, GCP, IBM Cloud) is desirable.
- Endpoint Security Management (Administration, Deployment, Operations) for security tools is desirable.
- Knowledge of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) management is a plus.
- Hands on experience of NextGen Firewalls administration and best practice is desirable.
- Has exposure in creating technical documentation for security tools and procedures.
- Monitors the internal control systems to ensure that appropriate access levels are maintained.
- Demonstrate high competency working under pressure and executing multiple global projects at the same time.
- Strong enterprise information security understanding.
- Understanding of ITIL and its practical application.
- Demonstrated competency in managing third party providers in IS operations.
- Ability to adapt in a complex environment has the will and drive to learn new things on their own.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically if needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in I.T, Engineering, or related Science and Math discipline with an Information system emphasis and/or equivalent experience.
- 5 or more years’ experience working within an Enterprise Network environment.
- Industry recognized professional certification such as CCNA, CCNP, GWAP, AWS Solutions Architect.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable)
- Work is performed in a designated professional office workstation and environment.
- Extensive use of office equipment to include computer, calculator, copier, fax, and other business-related machines and software.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Network Routing/Switching
- Expertise in SD WAN
- Vulnerability management of Network hardware
- Governing co-located Data Centers
- Governing IT Infra Service Outsourcing at Enterprise level
- Managing Vendor Partners
- ITIL Framework tools experience (service-now or similar)
