Job Description

The Business Head – Gemmology is a senior leadership role with complete accountability of the gemstone and
gemmology business. The role is responsible for end-to-end operations including sourcing, grading,
certification, inventory management, sales, marketing, and regulatory compliance. As a profit center head, the
leader will drive sustainable growth, operational excellence, ethical sourcing, and strong market positioning
across domestic and international gemstone markets.

Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Business Governance ● Define and execute the overall vision, strategy, and growth roadmap for the gemmology and gemstone business. ● Develop and implement long-term (3–5 year) strategic plans, annual operating plans, and budgets. ● Present regular business performance reviews, risk assessments, and strategic insights to the CEO and Board. ● Identify new opportunities across colored gemstones, diamonds, rare stones, certifications, and value-added services. ● Monitor global gemmological trends, pricing benchmarks, consumer demand, and competitive landscape. 2. Procurement, Sourcing & Inward Operations ● Lead sourcing of diamonds, colored gemstones, precious and semi-precious stones from approved domestic and international origins. ● Build strategic relationships with miners, traders, cutters, polishers, auction houses, and global suppliers. ● Drive negotiations on pricing, quality parameters, origin documentation, and commercial terms. ● Oversee inward logistics, valuation, inventory classification, and stock movement. ● Ensure strict adherence to ethical sourcing norms, traceability standards, and international compliance frameworks. 3. Gemmology, Grading & Certification Oversight ● Oversee gemmological evaluation, grading, and authentication processes in alignment with international standards (GIA, IGI, HRD, etc.). ● Coordinate certification workflows and ensure accuracy, consistency, and credibility of gem reports. ● Establish internal quality control frameworks to maintain gemstone integrity and trust. ● Stay abreast of advancements in gem identification technologies, treatments, and synthetics detection. 4. Sales, Marketing & Outward Operations ● Lead multi-channel sales operations including B2B gemstone trading, wholesale, auctions, exports, private clients, and institutional buyers. ● Develop pricing strategies aligned with global gemstone markets and valuation trends. ● Build and manage relationships with key buyers, jewelers, collectors, retailers, exporters, and international clients. ● Oversee order execution, documentation, logistics, and timely delivery. ● Represent the organization at international gem shows, trade fairs, exhibitions, and industry forums. 5. Brand Credibility & Market Positioning ● Strengthen the organization’s positioning as a trusted and authoritative gemstone and gemmology brand. ● Work with marketing teams on brand communication, digital presence, education-led content, and PR initiatives. ● Enhance brand credibility through certifications, industry affiliations, and thought leadership. ● Drive visibility in global gemmological and gemstone trading ecosystems. 7. Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Management ● Ensure compliance with statutory, export-import, customs, taxation, AML, KYC, and international gemstone trade regulations. ● Oversee audits, certifications, origin documentation, and regulatory reporting. ● Identify and mitigate risks related to price volatility, forex exposure, inventory valuation, and geopolitical factors. ● Uphold the highest standards of corporate governance, transparency, and ethical trade practices. 8. Leadership, Talent & Organizational Development ● Lead, mentor, and develop senior teams across sourcing, gemmology, sales, operations, and compliance. ● Define organizational structures, role clarity, KPIs, and succession planning. ● Foster a culture of integrity, expertise, accountability, and performance excellence. ● Drive long-term talent development and retention within specialized gemmology functions.

Requirements

● Strategic leadership with deep commercial and high-quality gemmological insight ● Extensive knowledge of global gemstone markets and valuation dynamics ● Strong understanding of grading, certification, treatments, and gemstone authenticity ● Proven P&L accountability and financial management capability ● Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and leadership skills ● Ability to operate in high-value, high-risk, trust-driven environments
