What the work involves
- Consulting clients on skincare, make up and fragrance choices.
- Demonstrating products and creating looks at the counter.
- Following up with clients on launches and replenishment.
- Keeping counter stock, testers and displays in order.
How to get hired
- Beauty retail or make up experience, or strong premium retail experience.
- Confidence talking about skin and products with clients.
- Grooming and presentation to brand standards.
Beauty advisors move up to counter manager, then to area manager or brand trainer for a prestige beauty house. Make up artistry skills can also lead to education and events roles across brands. Some move into product or marketing roles at head office. Fragrance specialists in particular are in demand as more houses open in the city, and their training is recognised across brands.
